Saltbox Coffee Co. was not born in a coffee roastery.
It started with a dream of slowing down.
Years ago, my wife and I traded busy schedules and crowded neighborhoods for a small piece of land and a simpler way of life. We were not trying to become full-time farmers. We were looking for space, quiet mornings, and the satisfaction that comes from building something with our own hands.
Over time, that little homestead became home to projects, animals, gardens, and beehives. We spent our days working outdoors, learning new skills, and discovering that some of the most rewarding things in life cannot be rushed.
Some of our favorite memories were not the big accomplishments. They were the small moments that happened every morning before the day began.
A cup of coffee shared at the kitchen table.
A few quiet minutes on the porch.
A conversation about what needed to be done before heading outside to tackle the day's work.
We documented parts of that journey through our YouTube channel, Free Range Art Farm, where we shared our experiences with beekeeping, homesteading projects, and the lessons we learned along the way.
We were never experts.
We were simply learning, building, and enjoying the process.
Eventually, life and work took us in a different direction. The homestead chapter came to a close, at least for now. We still keep bees. We still enjoy those slower morning rituals. And we still hope to return to country life someday.
The lessons we learned there never left us.
We learned that meaningful work is satisfying.
We learned that craftsmanship matters.
We learned that slower is not the same thing as lazy.
We learned that some of life's best moments happen before the world wakes up.
Those lessons inspired Saltbox Coffee Co.
Saltbox is a veteran-owned small business, founded by a U.S. veteran who believes in honest work, rural community, and giving back. From day one, we have committed 1% of revenue, product, and time to the Farmer Veteran Coalition through our Saltbox Gives Back pledge.
The name comes from the historic American saltbox home. These homes were simple, practical, and built to last. They were not flashy. They were dependable, purposeful, and rooted in a way of life that valued hard work, family, and community.
That spirit still resonates today.
Saltbox Coffee Co. is not just for farmers or homesteaders. It is for anyone who appreciates a simpler, more intentional way of living. Whether you live on a farm, in a small town, in the suburbs, or in the middle of a busy city, we believe there is something timeless about slowing down, taking a breath, and starting the day with purpose.
We are proud to partner with Temecula Coffee Roasters, a family-owned specialty coffee roaster that shares our commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way. Every bag is roasted fresh to order and shipped directly to your door, ensuring that the coffee you receive is as fresh as possible.
So here's to early mornings.
To meaningful work.
To building things that matter.
And to sharing a good cup of coffee before the day begins.
Welcome to Saltbox Coffee Co.
Roasted for the work ahead.
How it works
Every bag of Saltbox Coffee is roasted to order by Temecula Coffee Roasters. When you place an order, they roast your coffee fresh, print our custom Saltbox label, and ship it straight to your door. No warehouse. No stale inventory. No compromise on freshness. 12oz bags ship in certified home-compostable packaging. 2lb and 5lb bags are not available in compostable packaging and ship in standard black bags.
This model (called private label drop-shipping) means we can offer the quality of a dedicated specialty roaster without maintaining our own facility. Temecula does the roasting, the quality control, the labeling, and the shipping. We do the curation, the storytelling, and the community.
