Inspired by Salesforce's 1:1:1 model and the broader Pledge 1% movement, we adapted that philosophy for a veteran-owned small business just getting started.

We do not have a large team or a public company balance sheet. We cannot copy Salesforce literally. What we can do is make a visible commitment from day one and grow it as Saltbox grows.

The Farmer Veteran Coalition helps veterans transition into farming and ranching through training, resources, networking, and grants. Their Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund has awarded millions of dollars to beginning veteran farmers.

Why the Farmer Veteran Coalition

This is not a random charity pick. The Farmer Veteran Coalition mobilizes veterans to feed America, helping service members build meaningful careers in agriculture after the military.

I sit at the intersection of veteran life, rural living, hobby farming, beekeeping, and entrepreneurship. That is the same community FVC serves. Customers can tell the difference between a cause chosen for a press release and one that is genuinely connected to a founder and a community.

Looking ahead: a Heroes Blend

We are exploring a special annual coffee, a “Heroes Blend,” with 100% of profits from that SKU dedicated to the Farmer Veteran Coalition. FVC operates the well-known Homegrown By Heroes program for veteran agricultural producers; we would pursue any partnership or naming thoughtfully and with their permission.

For now, the 1:1:1 pledge is our foundation. As Saltbox grows, so does our ability to give back.
